Moulin de Gassac "Guilhem" 2017
Country: France
Region: Pays d'Herault, Languedoc
While Mas de Daumas Gassac is most famous for its benchmark Languedoc estate-grown Bordeaux blends, we’ve always had a special fondness for their great value Guilhem wines. The family launched the Moulin de Gassac line-up, including Guilhem, to help preserve old-vine vineyards owned by neighbors who increasingly struggled to find buyers for their grapes and wines. The Rouge is a blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 30% Carignan, all from 25-30 year-old dry-farmed vines that ripen beautifully in Languedoc’s warm, sunny, climate. You’ll be happy enjoying this on its own at a party or while dinner cooks and love how it pairs with everything from lamb burgers to pizza.
"A focused, light- to medium-bodied red, with currant, crushed cherry and underbrush flavors flanked by tangy acidity. Spice and white pepper notes detail the mineral-tinged finish. Light tannins. Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. Drink now through 2020."
